As the Cold War ended, there was a feeling that the United States would remain the sole superpower in the world. However, in time new rivalries and new alliances emerged. Russia and China raised against American hegemony, attempting to build alternatives to the world of liberal democracy and American influence. These new alliances that Russia and China promote (e.g. BRICS) include old enemies of the liberal order, including Iran and North Korea, as well as some traditional American allies such as Turkey and several Latin American countries.

How is the United States’ foreign policy reacting to these challenges? Are the U.S. and its allies in NATO and the European Union capable of confronting these new challenges? What do we learn from the wars in Ukraine and Gaza/Southern Lebanon?
