Pioneering talents like Sid Caesar, Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason and Steve Allen helped create a new type of visual comedy that would have a lasting influence on television for the next sixty years. This lecture explores some of the classic comedies of the 1950s, from The Texaco Star Theater to Your Show of Shows, and from I Love Lucy to The Tonight Show. We’ll also examine why this era produced more laughter than any other period in television history.
