The lecture explores the history of the guitar and the important guitarists throughout the past centuries. The lecture begins with the guitar’s predecessors such as the lute, vihuela, and theorbo, and ends with the Spanish guitar and its most recent transformations – acoustic steel string and electric guitars. The lecture features a historical part presented in a fun way with images and video examples. The historical part is supported by an interactive side in which students are invited to discuss the sound of various instruments including the Baroque lute, romantic guitar, classical, acoustic, gypsy jazz, and electric guitars, some of which will be brought for in-person lessons.
