Ever since the beginning of the sound era, film producers and directors have recognized the importance of including music in their motion pictures, whether as part of a soundtrack or by including songs performed either by the film’s actors or by vocalists who dubbed them. Many great Rock & Roll songs have been an integral part of this process, particularly in such films as “Goodfellas”, “Full Metal Jacket”, “American Graffiti”, and “Animal House”. During this presentation we’ll have an opportunity to examine how outstanding directors such as Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, and John Landis made effective use of songs from the Malt Shop era to establish a mood or remind the audience of the time frame in which the film was set.
