The United States began war preparations in the late 1930s, providing war materials to Great Britain and the Allies fighting Adolf Hitler’s Germany in Europe. President Franklin Roosevelt warned the nation about the evil Nazis, even as he cut off shipments of scrap iron, steel, and aviation fuel to an increasingly powerful Japan. Then, as most Americans remained cautious about entering the war against Germany, Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This multimedia presentation explores the years leading up to the attack, looks at the attack itself, and traces the escalation of the war and the final victory in World War II.
