American Jewish history dates back to Colonial America in the 1650’s. Jews have lived in the Southern Unites States since the late 1600’s. While it is widely known that the majority of the Jewish community came to northern cities, such as New York, thousands of other early Jewish immigrants chose the more rural south. They created tight-knit communities with unique cultural identities. But many also distinguished themselves in shaping – and re-shaping – the South.
